Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

What types of road markings do you carry out?
We cover white lines, yellow lines, give way triangles, stop lines, speed text, directional arrows, hatching, junction and roundabout markings, pedestrian crossing markings, cycle lane markings, and bespoke layouts for private roads and industrial estates. We also carry out road stud installation and anti-skid surfacing.
Do your road markings meet TSRGD 2016 requirements?
Yes. We apply road and highway markings to meet the requirements of the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016. We provide documentation on completion.
Do you work on public roads as well as private roads?
We work primarily on private roads, industrial estates, retail parks, and housing developments. For public highway work we coordinate with the relevant local authority and hold the necessary permits. If you are unsure whether your road is adopted highway, we can advise during the site survey.
Should I choose thermoplastic or road-grade paint?
Thermoplastic is the better choice for high-traffic roads and sites where longevity is a priority — it typically lasts 5–10 years. Road-grade paint is suitable for lower-traffic areas and lasts 2–5 years. We will recommend the most appropriate material for your site during the survey.
How long do road markings last?
Thermoplastic markings typically last 5–10 years depending on traffic volume and surface condition. Road-grade paint lasts 2–5 years. Surface condition and preparation quality also affect longevity.
Can you remove old road markings?
Yes. We offer shot blasting and scarifying to remove old markings before applying new ones, ensuring a clean, professional finish and preventing old lines from showing through.
Do you carry out junction and roundabout markings?
Yes. We carry out complex junction layouts, roundabout lane guidance markings, give way triangles, and priority markings. Whether it is a simple T-junction on a private estate or a multi-lane roundabout approach, we produce a layout plan before work begins and apply markings to meet TSRGD 2016 requirements.
Can you mark cycle lanes?
Yes. We mark cycle lanes, cycle symbols, and associated road text. Cycle lane markings on public highways are applied to meet current TSRGD 2016 requirements and any relevant local authority specification. We can also mark cycle routes and shared-use paths on private roads and housing developments.
Do you need permits for road marking on public highways?
Yes. Road marking on adopted public highways requires a permit under the Traffic Management Act 2004 and the relevant local authority's permit scheme. We manage the permit application process on your behalf as part of the project. For private roads and unadopted land, no highway permit is required, though traffic management may still be needed.
