Project Overview

About This Project

A retail park in Lincolnshire commissioned Markex to carry out a full re-mark of their main customer car park. The existing markings were heavily faded after several years of use, the bay layout was inefficient, and the disabled and parent & child bay provision did not meet current BS 8300 standards. The client required the work to be completed without closing the car park during trading hours, and needed the new layout to maximise available capacity.

The Challenge

What the Client Needed

The existing bay layout had been in place for over a decade and was no longer optimised for the site. Faded markings were causing confusion among customers, leading to poor traffic flow and informal complaints. The client needed a full re-mark completed outside trading hours — with no disruption to the retail park's anchor tenants — and required the new layout to comply with current accessibility standards.

Our Solution

How Markex Delivered

Markex carried out a full site survey and produced an optimised bay layout plan that increased capacity from 180 to 200 bays while meeting current BS 8300 requirements for disabled and parent & child provision. All existing markings were removed using line-removal equipment before the new layout was applied using thermoplastic materials for maximum durability. All work was carried out overnight over two consecutive nights, with the car park fully operational each morning before the retail park opened.

The Results

What We Achieved

  • 200 bays marked — 20 more than the previous layout
  • Disabled and parent & child bays fully compliant with BS 8300
  • EV charging bays added to meet growing demand
  • Thermoplastic markings with 7–10 year expected lifespan
  • Zero disruption to trading hours across both nights
